IT'S TOO LATE! YOU'VE BEEN SPOTTED AND THE SNAKE EELS ARE FAST APPROACHING AHHHH!!!!

wow... ok I need to get a grip. But those things do freak me out a bit. Snake eels are part of the family Ophichthidae. The term comes from Greek ophis (serpent) and ichthys (fish).

Serpent fish. Ya that name is even a little eery. I'm gonna put up my Eels Be Gone medallion on my door tonight (only $2 at Walmart!!) wink. wink.

Oh and can someone please help me to identify what species the pink snake eel is? Spank you.

And also, you should do a post on garden eels. We saw them at the Atlanta Aquarium and they are the creepiest things I've ever seen. They bury themselves in the sand and just leave a little worm-like end poking out. They're deceptively pink and pretty and they look like pink plankton undulating in the water. Then all of a sudden one pops out twelve more inches and you realize it's a friggin' snake. Eel. Whatever. They're all grody!

I love snakes too, but catch me going into the water again on the same continent as these creatures. Splendid post Carly, but the blog design STINKS. (I may have hinted at this elsewhere)

I know I need to increase the width of the posting area... how I do that though I'm still trying to figure out. Once the width is increased the images will increase as well, although from where I'm sitting they don't look that small to me. Unfortunately I really do like this design - much better than the other one in fact. Wish you felt the same :( kinda hurts..

The second eel posted is not a snake eel at all. It's a moray! They are very snake like but morays tend to hang around in coral crevices whilst snake eels usually hide themselves within sand.
