    Habitat: western Australia

In 1840 the Naturalist John Gilbert discovered this little ball of cuteness and was named Gilbert's Potoroo. Interestingly, the potoroo was never seen again, even though many had searched for them in the 1970s. So, for 120 years the Gilbert's Potoroo was thought to be extinct UNTIL it was re-discovered in 1994. Ah, the 90's - gotta love 'em.

Unfortunately, the sweet Potoroo is now listed as critically endangered. Would you just take a look at that sweet baby marsupial face?! We CANNOT allow that guy to become extinct! We just can't!!

In 2001, an action group was formed called the Gilbert’s Potoroo Action Group (GPAG). I'm definitely considering joining.

I love the 90's (well anything after 1994) and I adore the potoroo! What a stunner! I am considering joining too!!! Thanks for teaching me something. Great distraction from my riveting Lifetime Marathon. Keep up the good work. I love learning new things about cool animals! Cheers. Wendy
