So I know a lot of people have a fear of bats and I can see where that can come from, since the bats that you typically think of probably aren't the most attractive or friendly. But if you don't think this little bat is cute then I'm sorry there's really something much more serious wrong with you.

At just 37-47 mm long, this teeny-tiny bat reminds me of those marshmallows you put in your hot cocoa.

These little marshmallows are quite the craftsmen which is why their other name is the Honduran White Tent Bat. They cut the side veins of the Heliconia plant, causing them to fold down and form a large "tent." They cling to the roof of the tent in small colonies (usually around a dozen) with one male and several females.

This bat really had a "camping theme" going on. Tents. Marshmallows. What a cute animal!

Now I want to go camping in hopes to find them!

I think they're... cugely. Like adorable little fluffballs dressed up for Halloween. Seriously, it looks like they've made their ears and noses out of dried leaves, and their arms out of flower stalks.

Little guy to the left in the third pic looks like a sleeping piglet. Definitely the cutest bat I ever saw.

no need to be condescendingly sorry, and no, there isn't anything wrong with me.

Carly these bats are almost as cute as you are. though I have to say that I think the common fruit bat is better looking. Way back when I would catch the fruit bats near home, I wouldn't keep them for more then an hour or so but it was always a good time.

such unbelievably cute creatures! It is a shame that Chiroptera is so feared by humans and the dwindling populations makes one sad indeed!

    Hi CarlyB,
I agree with you that these bats are utterly adorable, IMO, BUT, truth be told, I think all mammals, animals, and amphibians are adorable, in their own way! As a fellow Psychology student I feel it's a bit anti-productive to assume that there's "something wrong with a person" just because they don't share your (our) view point...in retrospect don't you agree? One can "know how useful spiders are to our ecosystem, yet that doesn't reverse their innate arachnophobia, right? Perhaps you're just being facetious, but jokes shouldn't insult peoples sensibilities...especially over things which they might have lil' control...hmm?!
    What r u'r thoughts?

What a treat to see these little beauties, great pictures. We are trying to get a barn owl to fly and have been feeding every four hours for the past few weeks ( he is 6 weeks old now) and it is so exciting I have a post on my blog about him we called him Owlexandre Dumas

I don't understand why everyone isn't fascinated by bats. They are so diverse in habitat and form, and they're all a bit weird - but cute and fluffy at the same time! AND they don't get caught in your hair.

They have some at our local Zoo and they are fascinating - although not cute little white sweeties!

They are disgusting! My guess is that no one who posted here ever had one of those living in their homes. It's not that pleasant. Imagine a rat that lives in your home that will never leave unless you burn down the place, and it squirms and sheets constantly... Is it still adorable?

Pshaw. I have had bats in the house before. And that is not true. There are ways to prevent them from getting in the house in the first place. Mostly it requires maintenance from the homeowner. Replace cracked windows, walls, foundations; install a screen on chimneys. The only reason it would make noise and squirm is if it is trying to get out and it is trapped. Additionally you should be thankful for all the pests they eat. Bats are one of the best mosquito deterrents out there. That is why so many people invest in hanging bat roosts on their properties. You are entitled to feel like they look ugly but please do not propagate misinformation on bats.

As for these images, I have never seen a bat I didn't think was cute. One of the jobs I wanted as a little girl was to work in the Nocturnal House with the bats. But these tip the too precious right off the scale.
