You can’t help but love guinea pigs! With their sweet little eyes and soft squeaking sounds of joy you simply want to give them kisses all day long. But what about these rather odd breeds? Do they deserve never ending kisses too??

The Skinny Pig is an almost hairless breed of Guinea pig. Skinny Pigs typically have hair on their muzzles, feet and legs, but are hairless over the rest of their body. They were the result of a mutation and were commonly used in laboratory experiments. However, now they are a popular “designer” breed of guinea pig.

A werewolf skinny is a skinny pig that is born with fur drifted all over it’s body. Occasionally, as a werewolf skinny grows, the fur will fall out but that is never guaranteed. A werewolf skinny’s fur is very fine, and is sometimes grouped so close together that it looks like a skinny pig, is a furry pig until you look closely! The only place the a werewolf skinny will not get fur on, is it’s belly!
Teddy Guinea Pig

Wow, really cute pigs.. I feel like I want to hold them now. I really enjoyed visiting your article. Thanks for sharing the article with us..
That last picture of a werewolf skinny kind of reminds me of a moomin!
When I saw the first picture of the Abyssinian Guinea Pig, my immediate response was, no joke, REAL LIFE TRIBBLE OMG.The last one is pretty ridic, haha.
hmmm, should i get skinny pigs of the same color?
They recently posted the second picture of a skinny on CuteOverload remarking that it looks like a mini hippo
Everyone fell in love with it but when I went to find more pics of skinnies they weren’t close to as cute as what you have here. When I had an Abyssinian I read a few books on guineapigs and none mentioned skinnies or werewolves. Perhaps because they weren’t around back then (1990s).
o my gosh my guinea pig just died and those pictures brought back so many memories!!!For all of the pictures all i could sat was awwwwwwwwwwww!!!!1
I love the black skinny pig! It’soooooo cute! Love the teddy and abyssinian guinea pig to!

Love them all. But they always back up in your lap and pee. I preferred fancy mice instead.
I have had guinea pigs for many years, and I’ve only been peed on a handful of times. They generally give a warning of starting to gnaw on you when they need to go.
I have 3 guinea pigs! i love them to pieces even if they had no fur! Haven’t changed my mind about them!

The texel guinea pig looks like a tribble.
The first picture of the Abysian guinea pig looks like it stuck it’s paw onto a static electricity generator and all it’s hair just went POOF!

OMG My guinea pig is rare! Mine is a White-Crested Guinea Pig! See him at:cheesyhug.tumblr.com
This is mostly interesting though the only breeds that could qualify as ‘bizarre breeds’ were the skinny and werewolf skinny, while the others some were more uncommon than others they’re hardly bizarre.
I want a skinny pig! I love all of them, though! Cute rundown of the types – thanks!
how cute! and ur not snoop dog! funny song, though.
cute cute cute cute cute ^^
i have no f***ing idea what gender or breed my guinea pig but it is white brown and red
GOD I love those skinny pigs! So stinkin’ cute. One day… I was surprised to see Abys, Texels, Satins and crested GPs featured as “bizarre”. No mention of the Baldwin GP, either! Never saw a teddy bear GP ’til this post! The little grey baby featured is OMG, TOO CUTE!!!

The peruvian and the texel look insane, and probably don’t like having to carry around that huge hair.
I’d never seen the werewolf type of hairless before, interesting!
However, I have to point out, there is an error here. The first Abyssinian picture is a stuffed animal, that hair is clearly synthetic and you would be able to see the nostrils on a real guinea pig. Also, guinea pig ears are slightly ‘peanut’ shaped with a kind of divot in the middle of the edge of the ear, the stuffed animals ear is perfectly round.
Furthermore, an image search lead here- http://www.rowanbears.co.uk/guineapigs.php
Sorry, it stuck out to me so I had to point it out!
Cheers,
Jessie
I have one of each type of guinea pig. the only types i don’t have are the werewolf skinny pig and the texel guinea pig. Luckily, one of my friends’ Texel guinea pigs just had babies so i should be getting my texel baby soon! i love my collection of cuties! Guinea pigs make great pets!
